Biography
Artia Golestani was born in Tehran in 1972 and spent his childhood in Iran, France and Canada.
He started his studies in Fine Arts and Art History at the University of British Columbia in
Vancouver before embarking in the Architecture Program at the University of Waterloo in Ontario,
Canada. His architectural studies included a diverse range of investigations in the artistic fields
of Design, Cultural History, Film History and Photography. In 1997, upon earning his second degree
from Waterloo, his Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch), Artia moved to London England where he has
since been working as an architect while continuing his experimentation with photographic techniques.
In his photographic work, the preoccupation with subverting the traditional distinctions between painting
and photography led to his first series of photographs entitled ‘In a Minute There is Time’ (2001-2002)
which are images of daily life and activity in the streets of London. In 2003 he commenced a new series
entitled ‘City-Songs’ (2003-2005) depicting images of the city at night in which artificial light, reflection
and movement are explored. His work is in the collection at the Groucho Club in London, the Fondation
Carmignac Gestion in Paris and in private collections. His work has been exhibited at the Silk Road Gallery
in Tehran in a solo show in April 2006 and in a group show in July 2006.
